Welcome!
I’m Emily Wilson and Wilson Warbles is my monthly newsletter. Among other things, I’m an artist and illustrator, a book reader, a forest walker, a cross country skier, a sweater knitter, and an introverted insomniac. I live on Lheidli T’enneh territory in my hometown of Prince George, BC.
Wilson Warbles is a space to explore my thoughts around creative practice, to have ideas, and to praise the things I love. It is a place to share those things and to build a creative community. Though I have many broad interests, the threads of art and creativity are woven throughout.
As a subscriber, you may explore the following with me on a monthly basis:
Paintings, drawings, sketches
Creative process and experiments
Updates about art offerings and local events
Interviews with my artist friends and folks in my circle
Navigating freelance work
Our relationships with nature and place
Intersections of art and science
Books I love
Artists who inspire
TV, movies, music, podcasts, and general media to CONSUME
Ways to slow down
Why call it Wilson Warbles?
The Wilson’s Warbler is a songbird with whom I share a common name, and they are commonly spotted in the springtime around northern British Columbia, where I live. Just like me, they make their homes near aspen stands and alder thickets. They flit restlessly between perches, like birds after my own indecisive heart. To warble is to “sing softly and with a succession of constantly changing notes,” which will be a tone to strive for in this newsletter.
Thanks for being here! You can find more information about me and my work by reading the archive of past newsletters, and visiting my website. Feel free to share this newsletter with a friend who might like it!
